American soprano; b. Newark, Ohio, May 7, 1946. She studied at Ohio State Univ.(B.Mus., 1969) and the Univ. of Cincinnati Coll.-Cons. of Music (M.A., 1971). In 1973 she made her operatic debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at the West Palm Beach (Fla.) Opera; then was a member of the Innsbruck Landestheater (1974–76), Kassel Staatstheater (1976–78), and Cologne Opera (1978–82). In 1978 she appeared as Rosalinde at London’s Covent Garden, and on Sept. 30, 1983, she made her Metropolitan Opera
